Use Cartoons For More Effective Email Newsletters
Most webmasters are aware of how important an email newsletter is for building website traffic and particularly for bringing repeat traffic to a website. An important factor in the effectiveness of email newsletters is the quality of the content.
Cartoons can be an effective addition to any newsletter for a couple of reasons. Surveys have shown that people love cartoons. One newspaper survey years ago suggested that 91 percent of newspaper readers turned to the comics first. A client of mine tells me that 17 percent of his website traffic enters on his cartoon page. Because of their popularity, cartoons attract readers to your page and increase the probability that your readers will read the rest of your content.
Cartoons are fun and tend to leave readers in a relaxed and receptive mood. This is especially helpful if your newsletter is trying to sell something to the reader.
Cartoons can also be a way of getting people from your email newsletter to your website. For example, you might have a link in your email newsletter directing the reader to a page on your website for viewing the cartoon. This is especially useful if your newsletter is text-based and doesn’t generally contain graphic images.
If your newsletter is an html newsletter an even better idea is to publish a thumbnail image of a cartoon and link that image to a page on your website where the reader can view a larger image. Whereas readers hesitate to click on ads, they may very quickly click on this image and wind up visiting your website. The cartoon shown here is a good example of how this can work.
