Antique Mission Oak Desk

My husband and I had been new to antiquing. We have been on the lookout for a fun solution to spend some time together on the weekends. We had moved to North Carolina within the final year and I had noticed loads of terrific vintage outlets about an hour from where we lived. Searching for antique furniture appeared like fun and we would have liked to furnish some rooms in our new home. Knowing nothing about antiques meant we had lots to learn… That being mentioned, the primary piece we purchased was a wonderful antique oak chair. I was in love with the wealthy element the chair offered and the fantastic rich wood color. We introduced our new/old chair house and located the perfect spot where we could show it.

After just a few weeks I noticed that the chair had some slight harm and I decided to have it fixed. Once I introduced it to a furnishings restorer I was stunned and upset to study that my vintage-oak-chair is a copy antique chair. I explained that we purchased it from an vintage supplier but the furniture restorer showed me how he knew the chair was a copy simply based mostly on the stamp of the manufacturer.

Disappointment was written all over my face for sure. I felt as if I had been taken benefit of as a result of we didn’t have a superb working knowledge of antiques and the sales individual should have known. The restorer asked me what I paid for the chair and he told me that I paid manner too much for this reproduced vintage-oak-chair.

When I acquired residence I called my husband and told him what I had learned. We determined to return to the shop the place we acquired the chair to get a refund. The proprietor of the store informed us that they promote reproductions in addition to originals and that he was not conscious that we didn’t know that our antique-oak-chair was a reproduction.

When I discussed that the furniture restorer said that we had paid an excessive amount of, he instructed us that he didn’t agree and that the chair was nicely made and bought for a superb value. All I do know is that the following piece we buy we’re going to do a lot more research and know exactly what it is that we are getting and what we are paying for. I’m searching for vintage chairs!
