Chances are, if it was a Sunday afternoon, she will be at the public library reading every dog book and magazine she could find. There was a time when her interests included showing dogs in trials and dog shows as a professional dog handler. Drawing and sketching the animals, at 13 she spent most of her free time going to dog shows. At age 16, a friend encouraged her to create portraits of dogs not to mention start painting with oils.
When it comes to her skills, she is capable of painting magnificent landscapes, abstracts, sea scapes, and other subjects but she chose her specialty. The reason why she felt that she made the right decision was the fact that she had made and sold numerous dog portraits early on. To start, she created portraits using the dogs belonging to the members of the family. A local pet shop did not only put up a notice about her paintings but also displayed a picture she made of their own Boston terrier.
Credited by her are two paintings for a large measure of her progress. Considering her first painting, it was of charlie back which is a beguiling little mongrel restored to health and adopted as a mascot by the animal humane association. The expression and head are very important assets for a Labrador retriever they sort of make the dog. It is already difficult to photograph a black dog but even more challenging to paint one. On several occasion, people have asked her to make portraits of other pets including horses. She is being helped by her husband both tangibly and psychologically. He made a table specially designed to hold her paints and brushes. Whenever she shows her work, she uses the specially crafted easels and display stands she made and stained herself. Smoother dogs are easier to paint than the longer coated ones. She never tries to pose the dogs. Holding their heads just right will be a challenge for the dogs. What she does with the animal is observe it for an hour and this is so that she can remember its typical stance not to mention its sheen and the color of its coat plus the personality or character traits that it shows. What people agree upon are her skills in terms of being able to record these traits onto a canvas.
She works from snapshots furnished by the owner. Should the owners have no pictures to give then she can take it herself and then blow it up on the screen. When it comes to backgrounds and such, the people she paints for chooses the details. For some, they like sceneries while the rest want it plain. What she works on is a portrait per month because of family commitments. Other than taking vacations, she has housework to do.
