Second hand furniture starts creeping into our offices

But would you buy second hand office furniture? EBay gave a shot in the arm to the second hand market since its arrival, bringing people around to the idea of second hand products. The question here is not why have second hand office furniture, but why not have second furniture. Once the furniture is received, it is rebuilt if necessary and cleaned by the companies repair team, ensuring its just as good as new. You can also go down to the showroom, just to erase all fears about second hand office furniture.
If you didnt tell your staff that the furniture was second hand, they wouldnt even notice, a placebo type effect may take place. The furniture doesnt leave the store until its in top condition, so how could they tell if it was second hand- unless told previously? Then you might have the problem of staff members refusing to use second hair furniture and accusing the management of being ‘cheap’. There has been a stigma about buying second hand goods for years -making you look too cheap or the product might not work properly. Ebay has chipped away at this stigma, but some people will still pay extra for a brand new product than go second hand. If youd rather have new office furniture, then fine, but dont rule out a good condition second hand product.
So are we going to see a new niche market appear with offices buying second hand office furniture? Maybe, as the recession cuts the amount of money businesses have to spend, we could well see them going second hand to get brand name furniture at cheaper prices. If furniture leaves in a great condition, then having second hand furniture could become ‘trendy’.
